February's traditional birthstone and the suggested stone for the 6th anniversary, Amethyst is the most valued member of the quartz family and can be found in numerous shades of purple, lilac and mauve. Its purple coloration has made it a stone of royalty for thousands of years. It is found in geodes and alluvial deposits around the world and occurs in crystalline or massive form. It is the presence of manganese in clear quartz which produces amethyst and additional iron which varies the purple coloration.

Amethyst has long been thought of as a "stone of spirituality and contentment," helping to clear the aura and balance the energies of the physical, mental and emotional bodies. Gold-filled is defined as a layer of 10kt or better gold mechanically bonded under heat and pressure to another metal, then rolled or drawn to a given thickness.
